A drink with roots going back more than 150 years is getting a modern twist, as Somersby rolls out its newest creation: Somersby Shandy, a crisp lemonade-and-beer blend that’s now available in Malaysia and Singapore.

If the word shandy sounds old-school, that’s because it is. The drink traces its origins to 1850s England, where it began as the “shandygaff,” a mix of beer and ginger ale. Over time, lemonade became the more popular mixer, and the name shortened simply to shandy.

The idea spread across Europe, inspiring variations like Germany’s Radler, famously enjoyed by cyclists looking for a lighter, more refreshing drink. Somersby is tapping into that tradition—but with a modern, easy going spin.

Drink Up

The new Somersby Shandy blends the sparkle of lemonade with a smooth hint of beer, landing at 0.5% ABV and packed in handy 320ml cans. While it contains alcohol, the brand positions it as a lighter, easier-going beverage within their lineup.

Staying true to Somersby’s “playful but No-Nonsense” personality, the company says the new drink is all about unfussy refreshment. It joins the brand’s lineup of fruit ciders and its alcohol-free Somersby 0.0 as part of what they describe as their mission to offer feel-good, uncomplicated options for different occasions.

Somersby Shandy is hitting shelves starting November at supermarkets, hypermarkets, and online platforms in Malaysia and Singapore.
