Mercedes-Benz EQS 53 4MATIC Is The Ultimate Luxury EV
Share
Since their launch, Mercedes-Benz has continuously developed the EQS and its siblings. Independent of model updates and faster than ever before, innovations have been incorporated into the series for the EQS, EQE, EQS SUV and EQE SUV.
Interestingly, Mercedes engineers have responded to market and customer feedback more quickly than ever before with numerous product upgrades. For the current change year 2024, the EQS is now receiving an extremely extensive update package.
The electric flagship comes with up to 82 kilometres more range, a new radiator cover with chrome applications and an upright Mercedes star on the front hood as well as even more comfort in the rear.
The EQS was already one of the electric cars with the longest range. In the future, customers will be able to cover even more kilometres without stopping to charge. Thanks to an increased battery capacity from 108.4 to 118 kWh.
This latest EQS 53 4MATIC+ comes with a dual motor all-wheel drive set up. Total power output is a powerful 658hp (boosted temporarily to 761hp with RACE START) and an awesome 950Nm of torque.
This enables a 0-100km/h acceleration time of just 3.4 seconds at peak. Range is estimated at 571km on a full charge of its 108.4kWh 400-volt battery, which has a lithium, nickel, cobalt and manganese chemical composition. Range is estimated from an impressive 513km to a possible 571km on a full charge of its 108.4kWh 400-volt battery (it’s a large and heavy vehicle and still it delivers this range).
Interestingly, fast charging up to 200kW is available, adding 300km of range in just 19 minutes. Look around this sleek luxury sedan and you will appreciate the AMG radiator grille and the rear AMG spoiler at the tip of this sleek shape.
Step inside and the luxury appointments are elevated for the rear passenger ‘of course’ and also for the driver. Ignite the power unit and the cabin comes alive with the MBUX delivering all the necessary information and more. The 56-inch Hyperscreen glass panel with clear fonts provides a great experience for both driver and front passenger as the screen flows across the whole dashboard. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay come standard together with six USB ports and wireless charging pads for front and rear passengers. There is also head-up display with an augmented reality function.
The seats are ultra plush and the sound insulation is ‘library silent certified’. Feather the throttle and this EQS glides along and the ‘signature’ Burmester sound system delivers a crisp sound.
For its 2,700kg weight, this luxury sedan takes sweeping corners like a true sports sedan in ‘Sport+’ mode and delivers plush comfort in city driving when ‘Comfort’ mode is in use. Like the EQE its very quiet and glides along almost undetected by passerby’s.
Meanwhile, there is only one real rival to this EQS AMG and it is the latest Porsche Taycan. Speed, battery charging, looks and comfort are all residing side by side and it is up to you to decide after a test drive of both luxury vehicles on the same morning.
