Audemars Piguet has unveiled an exciting new collaboration with renowned New York-based artist KAWS, marking a bold step in the brand’s continuous exploration of creative boundaries. This collaboration underscores the brand’s longstanding connection to the cultural world, forging new intersections between fine watchmaking and contemporary art.
Iconic Style
Central to this partnership is KAWS’ iconic COMPANION sculpture, which serves as the focal point of the collection, seamlessly blending art and timekeeping. The unveiling took place at the Musée Atelier Audemars Piguet in Le Brassus, Switzerland with invited guests gathered to celebrate the launch.
Among those present were notable figures such as Audemars Piguet’s CEO Ilaria Resta, musician Mark Ronson, and cultural icons like J Balvin, Romeo Beckham and Rampa. The event highlighted the collaboration’s innovative spirit, which is as playful as it is thought-provoking.
New Limits
This partnership pushes the boundaries of how the luxury watch brand views Haute Horlogerie. It also offers an invitation for watch fans to experience traditional craftsmanship through the lens of KAWS’ signature artistic vision. At the heart of the collaboration lies the recognition of the power of imagination and creative expression to challenge conventional norms.
One of the key highlights of this collaboration is the Royal Oak Concept Tourbillon “COMPANION,” a striking 43 mm timepiece that brings KAWS’ unique style directly into the realm of high-end watchmaking. Limited to only 250 pieces, this watch incorporates KAWS’ COMPANION figure into its design in a highly imaginative way.
Breathtaking Art
Beneath the sapphire crystal, the COMPANION appears to interact with the watch, its face and hands seemingly pressing against the inner surface of the glass, as if it is curiously peering out into the world beyond. The design is as innovative as it is artistic.
The COMPANION figure takes centre stage on the dial, made possible by a cutting-edge peripheral time display, which allows KAWS’ artwork to shine without being overshadowed by the traditional face of the watch. This groundbreaking approach places time itself in the background, reinforcing the subtle yet futuristic nature of the Royal Oak Concept collection.
