It would seem that sequels are the new hot thing this year
So now that 2022 is in our rear view and we are fresh into 2023, let’s take a look at some of the most highly anticipated K-drama series that are coming this year.
No doubt the show on most people’s list is none other than season 2 of “Squid Game.” This is based on a study from independent online casino comparison service, CasinoAlpha.
According to the company, they analysed a comprehensive list of new releases for 2023 and discovered which titles are the most searched on Google. They then compiled them into a list of most searched to least searched and then made them into the most anticipated series of the year list.
The second season of “Squid Game” was the obvious winner with 1,002,400 average monthly searches. While the first season of this series was first released on Netflix on September 17th, 2021,well over a year ago, it wasn’t until last year that the series truly blew up and the show runners took notice as they announced the second season of the world renowned K-drama in June 2022.
Additionally, the second most searched K-drama of 2023 is season two of “All of Us Are Dead,” with 188,200 average monthly searches. This series was released in January 2022 and was an instant hit riding the wave of Korean survival dramas after the success of the “Train to Busan” and “Parasite” movies.
In third is the second season of “Sweet Home” with 61,620 average monthly searches. Interestingly, the first season of this series was released on Netflix at the tail end of 2020 so it seems high time the fans get a sequel now.
The fourth most searched K-drama series in 2023 was season two of “Hellbound” with 33,400 average monthly searches while “Arthdal Chronicles” closes out the top five spots on the list with 30,800 average monthly searches.
All these series are available on Netflix. So if you want to get up to speed before these K-Drama sequels premiere, you know what to do.
