Four New Marriott Hotels Are Coming To Malaysia

Share

Marriott International and IOI Properties Group (IOIPG) have signed agreements for four new hotels in Malaysia, adding a planned 888 rooms to Marriott’s development pipeline and extending the partnership across key urban and leisure destinations.

The portfolio comprises The Ritz-Carlton, Putrajaya; W Langkawi; Aloft by Marriott Sepang; and Aloft by Marriott Johor Bahru Plentong. All four properties are new-build developments, with openings planned from 2030 onwards.

The agreements build on an existing relationship under which Marriott manages seven IOIPG-owned properties across seven brands in Malaysia. For IOIPG, the latest signings will bring its portfolio of hotels owned and managed by Marriott to 15, including properties already operating and those in development.

The expansion also reflects IOIPG’s wider hospitality ambitions, with the group targeting a total of 4,648 hotel rooms across Malaysia, Singapore and China by 2032.

Four hotels across Malaysia’s leisure and business destinations

Scheduled to open in 2030, W Langkawi will bring the brand to the island for the first time. The planned 173-key beachfront resort will be located along Pantai Kok, within reach of attractions including the Langkawi Sky Bridge and Langkawi International Airport.

In Putrajaya, The Ritz-Carlton, Putrajaya is planned for a 2032 opening, with 215 rooms within a 70-storey mixed-use tower forming part of the third phase of IOI Resort City. The development will add a luxury hospitality offering to a township that combines retail, residential, recreational and hospitality facilities.

The two Aloft hotels are scheduled to open in 2030, each with 250 rooms. Aloft by Marriott Sepang will form part of a 40-acre commercial development in Kota Warisan, approximately 12km from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). Its location near the Salak Tinggi Express Rail Link station is expected to appeal to business travellers, transit guests and visitors attending meetings in the area.

Meanwhile, Aloft by Marriott Johor Bahru Plentong will be part of the IOI @ Plentong mixed-use development, marking the brand’s debut in Johor Bahru. Its proximity to the Pasir Gudang Industrial Area, Johor Port and the Johor-Singapore Causeway is expected to support demand from both corporate and leisure travellers.

The four hotels join the previously announced 324-key The Westin Puchong, which is scheduled to open in 2031 at IOI Rio City, a mixed-use development in Bandar Puteri Puchong. Together, the five projects represent the next phase of Marriott and IOIPG’s collaboration in Malaysia.
