The Mini Royal Oak is set to make a big comeback to the market and perhaps your wrists

Swiss Haute Horlogerie manufacturer Audemars Piguet has unveiled its latest masterpiece: the miniature Royal Oak quartz model. Measuring a delicate 23mm in diameter, this new addition is available in 18-carat yellow, white, or pink gold. These elegant timepieces merge the iconic aesthetic of the original Royal Oak with the dazzling brilliance of Frosted Gold.Mini Oak

Mini Oak Is Back

Inspired by Audemars Piguet’s rich heritage of miniature and jewellery watches, this trio of petite marvels offers a modern take on the 20mm Mini Royal Oak introduced in 1997. By reimagining the proportions, design, and performance of their smallest Royal Oak yet, the new “Mini Oak” collection caters to the slenderest of wrists.

Moreover, since the 19th century, Audemars Piguet has been at the forefront of creating exquisite small watches for women. These timepieces have continuously pushed the boundaries of miniaturisation, gem setting, and aesthetic refinement. Mini Oak

Innovating Since The Beginning

Audemars Piguet’s early feminine creations featured intricate mechanisms housed in elegant and discreet pendant, brooch, or ring watches, often adorned with enamelled cases and precious stones. These smaller models served as a platform for innovation, driving AP craftspeople to explore new realms of miniaturisation and creativity.

Over the years, the brand has developed numerous miniature movements in the early 20th century. This includes the world’s smallest 5-minute repeater movement, Calibre 7MV5, in 1921, and Calibre 5/6SB, their smallest baguette-style movement, in 1927. These feats of miniaturisation led to the creation of new styles of bracelet watches, wristwatches, and pendant watches for both men and women.Mini Oak

Where It Started

The introduction of the groundbreaking Royal Oak in 1972 marked another milestone in miniaturisation. Designed by Gérald Genta, this iconic model was later reimagined by Jacqueline Dimier, head of the design office from 1975 to 1999, who created the Royal Oak II for women in 1976. Mini Oak

Powered by the small self winding Calibre 2062, this 29mm timepiece retained all the codes of the original model but was significantly reduced in size to suit smaller wrists. Model 8638, and its gemset derivative 8756, remain the smallest selfwinding Royal Oak ever made. The new Mini Oak collection continues this legacy of innovation and elegance.
