Rakuten Kobo has unveiled a sleek new colour option for one of its most popular digital reading devices, the Kobo Clara Colour, now available in Classic White. The launch introduces a minimalist and timeless aesthetic to Kobo’s colour eReader lineup, without compromising on performance or features.

Originally launched in 2024 alongside the Kobo Libra Colour, the Kobo Clara Colour quickly became a favourite among booklovers thanks to its compact size, vibrant display, and user-friendly design. The addition of the white model responds directly to reader demand, according to Rakuten Kobo CEO Michael Tamblyn.

“Our most popular feature request since launch has been, ‘Clara Colour, but make it white!’ and we’re happy to meet that demand,” Tamblyn said. “At Kobo, we focus on delighting readers—and every part of the eReader experience plays a role.”

The Kobo Clara Colour features a 6-inch E Ink Kaleido™ 3 display, delivering crisp black-and-white text alongside vivid colour, ideal for graphic novels, children’s books, and travel guides. The device supports multicolour highlighting, making it easier to annotate and organise notes.

Designed with sustainability in mind, the Clara Colour is made using recycled and ocean-bound plastics, and it comes packaged in eco-conscious materials. It’s also IPX8 waterproof, making it suitable for reading at the beach, by the pool, or in the bath.

Access To Literature

Kobo’s eReaders offer access to over eight million titles through its built-in eBookstore. Readers can also borrow library books directly via OverDrive integration, save web articles through Instapaper, or explore unlimited reading options with the Kobo Plus subscription.

To complement the device, Kobo is also launching a range of eco-friendly accessories, including the Kobo Clara Colour SleepCover (MYR 155), made with 97% recycled plastic. It is available in six colours: Candy Pink, Cayenne Red, Misty Green, Butter Yellow, Dusk Blue, and Black. More budget-friendly options include a Basic SleepCover and Clear Case for MYR 95.

The Kobo Clara Colour in Classic White will be available in Malaysia from 23 September 2025, retailing at MYR 799 through leading retailers.
