Celebrate “Kermit Day” with the special edition ProPilot X Calibre 400

Mechanical watchmaking is a serious business and Oris is really quite serious about it. But with the ProPilot X Kermit Edition, part of the Oris x Disney’s The Muppets collaboration. It is based on the brand’s 39mm titanium ProPilot X Calibre 400, only with a green dial and a twist.

These things are all important. And also quite serious. Along the way, the brand has tried to make a good deal of noise, too, about why it does things the way it does, why it makes the watches it makes. The answer is always the same, the brand is inspired by what it calls the Joy of Mechanics.

Why Make These Watches?

Why does Oris keep making mechanical watches? The first function of every Oris watch, in the purest emotional, feel-it-in-your-bones sense, is to bring joy, to make people smile. That’s it. If an Oris watch can make someone’s day better, Then the brand considers it a done deal.

So Why Kermit?

So now, the age old question, why Kermit the Frog? Well if an Oris watch is meant to be the ultimate expression of mechanical prowess while still putting a smile on someone’s face who better than the beloved Muppet, as his role is to entertain, to put a smile on our faces. He’s been doing it for generations so a watch with Kermit makes sense.

Gotta Make Time For Me

The creative director of Oris, Ken Laurent, went to Hollywood to meet Kermit the Frog and to make a short film together. Kermit composed and sang “Gotta Make Time For Me”, a catchy tune about finding even just a brief moment in the day for yourself and this is the inspiration for the watch.
