Banyan Tree Samui

Banyan Tree Samui has partnered with T.A.I Studio to bring handwoven bags and baskets from Phatthalung, southern Thailand, to its onsite boutique, Banyan Tree Gallery Samui.

Made from locally grown krajood sedge and banana tree fibre, the collection combines traditional weaving techniques with contemporary design. T.A.I Studio, founded by Nick and Sai Rawling, works with a network of local growers, weavers and specialist makers to produce pieces that reflect the region’s materials and craft traditions.

The resort partnership also creates a retail platform for local artisans, introducing their work to international visitors while supporting traditional skills and livelihoods.

Connecting craft with community

The collaboration aligns with Banyan Tree’s founding ethos of “Embracing the Environment, Empowering Communities”, according to Spa & Gallery Manager Naphasawan Badklang.

Banyan Tree Gallery has supported artisan communities for more than three decades. Across its network, it has commissioned over 1.2 million products, supported 339 communities and collaborated with 240 non-profit organisations.

At the Koh Samui resort, the new collection joins locally inspired handicrafts, bath and body products, and aromatherapy collections. The resort itself features 88 private-pool villas, three restaurants, including Saffron and a spa with a Rainforest hydrotherapy facility.

The T.A.I Studio collection offers guests another way to discover southern Thailand’s craft heritage, through everyday objects shaped by local materials and the people who work with them.
