Zeekr Now Has The Fastest Charging EV Battery In The World

Good news for electric car buyers who have waited patiently for the battery technology to get even better, as chinese electric car manufacturer, Zeekr has just announced that its 007 sports sedan is equipped with a battery that can be charged in just 10 minutes and 30 seconds (according to current industry ‘speak’), as Zeekr’s new battery will juice up from 10 percent to an 80 percent charge, using the automaker’s ultra-fast charging stations.
All electric car brands suggest it is best not to let your battery deplete to below 10 percent and a 80 percent charge is best for battery long life (just like with your smartphone).
By the way, Zeekr is now a U.S.-listed electric car company and they made this announcement last week Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Tesla’s Model 3 can recharge its battery up to a driving range of 282 kilometres in 15 just minutes which is about 48 percent of the full driving range and this used to to be the segment best.
So, the Zeekr 007 sports sedan sedan, which will be available from next week in selected countries, will be its first vehicle to have the new fast charging battery.
Interestingly, this new lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery which were originally unveiled in December of 2023 were tested in Zeekr’s new 007 sedan model and charged with Zeekr V3 ultra-fast charging piles which are rated for up to 800kW charging speeds.
The dimensions of the Zeekr 007 sedan are 4.8m in length and 1.4m in height, with a wheelbase of 2.9m. Depending on the transmission configuration, the curb weight of the Zeekr 007 varies from 2,150 to 2,290 kg, with a maximum speed limited to 210km/h.
The base Zeekr 007 is equipped with rear-wheel drive with a single electric motor of 421 horsepower. The manufacturer of this motor is Quzhou Jidian Electric Vehicle Technology (QJEVT), which is a subsidiary of Geely. An LFP power unit from the same supplier powers this electric motor, but its capacity and range are yet to be revealed.
So, these bold claims by Zeekr are believable (Zeekr is owned by Geely who also owns part of Proton in Malaysia), but more importantly even if it’s not the fastest charging EV battery, being one for the fastest is still quite a leap for them.
Geely owns several brands, including UK-based luxury sports car brand Lotus and Sweden’s Volvo.
