Get ready for the highly anticipated return of Gemilang Kampong Gelam (GKG) 2025. Running from 19 February to 25 March 2025, this annual event, now in its fifth edition, celebrates the vibrant culture and history of Kampong Gelam, Singapore’s oldest urban district.
Organised by One Kampong Gelam and supported by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), GKG 2025 promises an exciting line-up of festivities that spotlight the themes of heritage, community, and sustainability.
A Big Deal
After the tremendous success of the 2024 edition, which attracted 1.1 million visitors, this year’s event is set to captivate both locals and international visitors with a range of activities suitable for all ages. From delicious culinary offerings to a mesmerizing Sultan Mosque Light Show, hands-on workshops and traditional performances, there’s something for everyone.
Kampong Charity Run 2025
Kick off the festivities with the Kampong Charity Run on 15 February, promoting healthy living and drug-free awareness. This 2.4km run, supported by Drugfree SG, offers a meaningful way to prepare physically and mentally for Ramadan, with proceeds benefiting the Kampong Gelam Community Centre.
Culinary Delights
At the heart of GKG 2025 is its Ramadan Bazaar, featuring over 80 food and retail partners. Indulge in a diverse selection of food, from traditional Malay dishes to fusion creations. Crowd favourites like House of Lemang and Satay Ummi are served alongside unique options such as Smashed Burger and Turkish ice cream.
Community And Cultural Experiences
GKG 2025 celebrates Kampong Gelam’s cultural richness with traditional performances, including the Joget Parade and live shows featuring local Malay celebrities. New additions include the Kampong Gelam Tour, a guided exploration of the area’s historical gems, and the Mystery Treasure Hunt, where participants can win exciting prizes.
Sustainability First
This year, GKG emphasises sustainability, partnering with Gorental.SG for solar-powered generators and promoting eco-friendly practices across the event, including recyclable packaging and discounts for visitors bringing reusable water bottles.
