Nio has just shared news of its plans to enter Thailand with the Firefly compact EV next year as part of its global expansion.

For the first time in Southeast Asia, the company will introduce all three of its brands – Nio, Onvo, and Firefly – representing its most extensive strategic move in the region to date.

Nio will launch the Firefly EV in Thailand, targeting young consumers. The electric small car is manufactured at Nio Factory Two (Nio F2) in Hefei, Anhui, China. The company has not yet announced the launch sequence or planned products for the Nio and Onvo brands, both of which will make their regional debut in Thailand.

Thonburi Bluesky, a subsidiary of Thonburi Group, has been appointed as Nio’s local distributor. Thonburi Group has over eight decades of experience in the Thai automotive industry and has served as a distribution partner and contract manufacturer for Mercedes-Benz.

Since late 2024, it has also held the distributorship for Geely in Thailand.

“Thailand has potential for growth in the electric vehicle market due to consumer demand, government policies, infrastructure, and the existing industry. Collaboration with Thonburi Bluesky, with its business presence and understanding of the Thai market, will allow Nio to establish an EV ecosystem in Thailand,” stated Nio founder and CEO Bin Li.

Production of the right-hand drive Firefly EV began on 18th November, with its debut at Auto Guangzhou 2025 three days later.

Sales of the Firefly EV began in China and the model has since expanded to Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Greece, the Netherlands, and Norway. Nio plans to make it available in 17 markets worldwide.

Regarding the Onvo brand, Nio launched its first model, the L60, in September 2024, followed by the L90 in August 2025.

In August 2025, the company announced plans to launch the L60 in Costa Rica and Uzbekistan the following year. Last month, citing Bin Li, a report from EV stated that Nio intends to launch the first Onvo model in Europe in 2027.
