Nivada Grenchen and Undone play on our nostalgia

Do you remember Pac-Man? We certainly still do, the game we all loved back in the 80’s is still well imprinted into our minds. Fast forward to 2022 and now Nivada Grenchen and Undone present the Depthmaster Pixel Art. This new timepiece is a “stealth mode” version of the iconic “Pac-Man” Depthmaster Diver watch.

The watch community has always been fond of giving their favourite timepieces a fitting nickname and this all new blast from the past also gets one that is a dead ringer for its looks, the “Pac-Man.” This nickname is reflective of the pixelated look of the watch dial and the overall colour scheme of the timepiece.

Moreover, the original Depthmaster dive watch was first introduced in 1965, well before the Pac-Man game had even been conceived. It was also the first dive watch to be waterproof up to 1,000 metres (3,300 feet). This meant the watch was a record setter at the time, much like the famous Pac-Man game as well.

The original Depthmaster also looked completely different compared to other dive watches at the time which mostly all had round cases and large round luminous indexes on the watch dial. This is a trait shared by the current Pac-Man edition timepiece with its unique pixelated watch dial.

Additionally, the original Depthmaster did more than just defy the limits of what many believed a dive watch could do. It also reinvented the dive watch and gave the timepiece a distinctive look with its contemporary styling. This set the tone moving forward for the purpose-designed tool watch.

Furthermore, the legendary Pac-Man Depthmaster has only been available in a single brushed steel case and rubber strap variant but now, a stealthier version has been revealed. This blacked out version of the watch features a “beads of rice” metal bracelet which we prefer over the original design.

Naturally, a watch as full of easter eggs as the Depthmaster will be limited to ensure that its uniqueness is not lost. As such, this particular timepiece will be limited to only 200 units, all of which will still be water resistant up to 1,000 metres. This means the watch will not only be stylish and nostalgic, it will also be practical.
