The Elixir

Acclaimed Indonesian director Kimo Stamboel is set to deliver spine-chilling thrills with The Elixir, a brand-new Netflix Original horror film premiering globally on 23 October 2025 — just a week before Halloween.

Set against the atmospheric backdrop of a remote village near Yogyakarta, the tale weaves a tale of ancient remedies, ambition, and the unintended horrors that can arise from meddling with nature.

The story centres on a family who owns a famed herbal medicine (jamu) business. When the family patriarch becomes obsessed with preserving his legacy and extending his life, he unwittingly unleashes a zombie outbreak that threatens the entire community.

Blending Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage with elements of horror and the undead, The Elixir offers a unique take on the zombie genre. The creatures themselves are designed with local characteristics, and the film’s themes touch on familial conflict, tradition, and the price of power.

Directed by Kimo Stamboel, who also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Agasyah Karim and Khalid Kashogi, the film is produced by Edwin Nazir under production service company Mowin Pictures.

The cast features a line-up of celebrated Indonesian talent, including Eva Celia, Mikha Tambayong, Donny Damara, Dimas Anggara, Marthino Lio, Kiki Narendra, Ardit Erwandha, Claresta Taufan, and Varen Arianda Calief.

With its gripping plot, cultural depth, and unsettling imagery, the story promises to be a must-watch for horror fans and lovers of international cinema alike. The Elixir premieres globally on 23 October 2025, exclusively on Netflix.
