Mitsubishi Reveals The XFC Concept SUV

Is this replacing the aging Mitsubishi ASX?
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (Mitsubishi) premiered the Mitsubishi XFC concept car yesterday in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This concept car shows us a new compact SUV from the Japanese brand and it is set to be on display at the Vietnam Motor Show 2022 from 26 to 30 October 2022. Could this replace the older ASX?
Mitsubishi describes the build of the Mitsubishi XFC concept car as being the “best-suited buddy for an exciting life,” and this new concept SUV certainly does look the part. It features an imposing SUV design, is very practical with class-leading interior space and is safe and comfortable.
Takao Kato, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors, stated, “We will launch the new compact SUV sequentially in the ASEAN markets including Vietnam in fiscal year 2023.”
“In the future, we plan to add an electrified variant to the lineup and to also roll it out in regions outside ASEAN. We hope to grow the model from a vehicle for the ASEAN market to a global strategic vehicle, making it a core model like the sales-leading Xpander crossover MPV.” He added.
Moreover, the Mitsubishi XFC concept is not currently featured in the brand’s current ASEAN lineup but it does complement the slew of ASEAN market Mitsubishi vehicles very nicely and since we already know the Mitsubishi ASX is due for a new generation soon, could the brand pull a bait and switch to give us this car instead?
Not likely. While it could be a fun surprise and some may even consider it an elaborate practical joke, the brand had already previously stated that there would be an all new generation of the Mitsubishi ASX in early 2023. I honestly don’t think the brand would have ever said that if they weren’t planning to actually do it.
However, it would have been cool though since both models are compact SUVs so it really would not have been all that out there if Mitsubishi did decide to replace the ASX all together and just bring in the XFC concept to Malaysia and ASEAN in general. Just look at the car, we know it’s only a concept now but it looks cool.
What’s more the interior looks ultra modern and we hope that the new Mitsubishi ASX that’s supposed to come out next year can sort of follow the interior design of the Mitsubishi XFC concept, at least to a certain degree.
