The designer and whisky brand unveil a limited edition design for the new year
Angel Chen is the star of a Netflix Documentary called “Next in Fashion” and one of fashion’s biggest rising talents. Now, she has added a new feather in her cap by partnering Johnnie Walker to create a new Johnnie Walker Blue Label limited edition design in celebration of the upcoming Lunar New Year.
Anyone who likes their Scotch Whisky knows that Johnnie Walker is the best in the business and to usher in the Lunar New Year of 2023, the brand is giving us a vibrantly illustrated new design of their delectable Blue Label designed by Shanghai-based designer, Angel Chen.
The striking design of the new Johnnie Walker Blue Label bottle designed by Angel Chen features a dynamic and contemporary take on the 2023 Zodiac animal, the agile rabbit. What’s more, the design perfectly mirrors the energetic and appealing energy of the animal itself.
A symbol of mercy, elegance and beauty, the animal also signifies longevity which can also be considered an echo to the Johnnie Walker motto, “Keep Walking.” To achieve this double meaning, Chen included prancing rabbits against mountainous peaks in her design.
The designer studied fashion in the prestigious Central Saint Martin College of Art in London and said, “There’s a defiant energy to my illustrations which bring to life the vibrant spirit of the rabbit as it leaps across the design, symbolising how we need to keep moving forward, spreading goodness throughout the year to come.”
Chen looked to Johnnie Walker Master Blender Emma Walker and her team for inspiration and their craft served as the muse for Angel’s new design. After all, a whisky made from rarest whiskies in the unbeatable Johnnie Walker reserves deserves a design that speaks to its excellence.
She also stated, “My work is often inspired by different generations, different genders and cultures coming together to create something fresh and new. These ideals echo the craft of Johnnie Walker, taking different types of whisky from different distilleries, with differing ages of maturation and blending them together perfectly to create a masterpiece – that is something I can relate to.”
