HBO has officially announced the lead cast for its highly anticipated Harry Potter television series, revealing that Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout will take on the iconic roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley, respectively.

The casting comes after what producers described as an “extraordinary search,” led by renowned casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann. Showrunner and executive producer Francesca Gardiner, alongside director and executive producer Mark Mylod, expressed excitement over the young trio.

“The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen,” they said in a joint statement. “We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.”

The upcoming series, described as a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved book series, will bring the magic of Hogwarts to a new generation of viewers. Each season is set to cover one of the original books, allowing for a deeper exploration of the story and characters. Rowling will serve as an executive producer alongside Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts (Brontë Film and TV), and David Heyman (Heyday Films).

The series will stream exclusively on HBO Max in regions where the platform is available. Meanwhile, the original film series will remain accessible worldwide. Written and executive produced by Gardiner and directed in part by Mylod, the HBO Harry Potter series is being produced in partnership with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television.
