BuMI Fest makes a vibrant return to Penang’s lush Tropical Spice Garden from 31 May to 1 June, promising a weekend of music, mindfulness, and movement immersed in nature. Now in its second edition, the two-day festival offers an expanded program that deepens its celebration of community and holistic wellbeing.
Set in the tranquil sanctuary of Teluk Bahang, just outside George Town, BuMI Fest 2025 features a diverse mix of workshops, performances, and meaningful cultural exchanges. A highlight this year is the participation of rice farmers from East and West Malaysia, who will host a live rice milling demonstration and a dialogue on farmers’ rights, bridging urban-rural understanding.
Festivalgoers can enjoy a curated mix of activities including fermentation classes, natural dye-making, primal dance, and a didgeridoo workshop. Families are especially welcome, with thoughtfully crafted children’s programs designed to engage and inspire young minds.
Live performances include Saturday’s headline act Naungan, known for their fusion of Nusantara folk and soul, and a soul-stirring sunset Cacao Ceremony with Ecstatic Dance led by Australia’s Chakaruna on Sunday.
Visitors can also explore a vibrant community market featuring handmade goods, local produce, and wholesome treats. Throughout the weekend, the garden itself becomes part of the experience, offering immersive soundscapes and the calming embrace of nature.
With only 100 adult and 60 children’s tickets available per day (priced at RM99 and RM40 respectively), BuMI Fest is designed to be intimate and intentional. Shuttle vans from George Town will ease transport for attendees.
