See the first made in the Hamlet vineyard

Brunello Cucinelli held a dinner at the Istituto dei Ciechi in Milan on 9 November 2022 to present his first wine, a Vintage 2018 called the “Castello di Solomeo”, which was produced in the vineyard of Hamlet of Cashmere and Harmony in Solomeo. He also held this dinner to have his friends taste the olive oil in the new season.

The vineyard was planted in 2011 and covers an area of 5 hectares, 6 if you count the gardens, and alternates between three different types of soil which are alluvial clay-sandy, alluvial clay-silt and marly arenaceous. Each one is meticulously matched to a specific variety of wine with production capacity at about 9 thousand bottles a year.

Moreover, the grapes in the vineyard chosen for the Castello di Solomeo are Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, which is used to make the prestigious Bordeaux blend. The Sangiovese wine is then added to serve as a tribute to the culture and winemaking tradition of Central Italy. This union ensures the wine is rich but soft.Vineyard

Interestingly, the over 20,000 vines that wind around the rows of the Solomeo vineyard are tended to daily and this is done to ensure maximum longevity and the well-being of the grapes. What’s more, the wavy arrangement of the vines gives the vineyard the appearance of a garden and allows the plants to receive the maximum amount of light possible.

Furthermore, the selection and thinning out of bunches from the very early stages of life in the vineyard is very important in achieving the quality desired for the wine to truly be appreciated.

Brunello Cucinelli said, “In our Solomeo, we have allotted five hectares to vines that are cultivated according to the classic principles of viticulture, which I consider a true art; I like to think that our grapes can finally tell their own story of beauty. I believe there is nothing more beautiful than sharing this precious fruit, born out of a long process of care and custody, with lifelong friends and loved ones.”Vineyard
