Audi Unveils The Activesphere Concept
The German automaker explores the idea of a luxury coupe turned pickup
Ever looking ahead to the future, German automaker, Audi is signalling its intent to transform the world of cars. After releasing the Skysphere roadster in 2021, and the Grandsphere sedan as well as Urbansphere space concept in 2022, Audi now reveals the four-door crossover coupe, the Activesphere.
By perfectly combining opposites, the Audi Activesphere proves to be a versatile crosser of boundaries. Armed with a drive system and suspension which make it equally adept on both on and off the road, it can be a luxury coupe as well as a pickup truck and still blend the best of both in one package.
Oliver Hoffmann, Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development at Audi explains, “The sphere concept vehicles show our vision for the premium mobility of the future. We are experiencing a paradigm shift, especially in the interior of our future Audi models. The interior becomes a place where the passengers feel at home and can connect to the world outside at the same time.”
The Audi Activesphere measures 4.98 meters long, 2.07 meters wide, and 1.60 meters high with a wheelbase of 2.97 meters. This gives the electric vehicle (EV) ample legroom. What’s more, large 22-inch wheels and striking ground clearance give the car a classic sports car silhouette but with a pickup truck utility.
On top of that, being a crossover, the Audi Activesphere features transparent rear window slides that are almost flush with the roof of the car and at the same time, the lower, vertical segment of the rear folds horizontally. This opens up a spacious cargo bed called the active back that features brackets for unmatched utility.
The common name component of these four new Audi EVs is the word sphere and nowhere is this theme more apparent than the new Audi Activesphere as it reflects in the interior of the car. This comes from the spherical overall shape of the interior which gives the occupants an unparalleled comfortable experience in the car.
Additionally, the dimensions and performance level of the Audi Activesphere allows it access to Audi’s most innovative electric drive system, the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) which is being developed under Audi’s leadership together with Porsche AG.
Lastly, the Audi Activesphere really does have it all as in less than 25 minutes, the 100 kWh battery charges from 5 to 80 percent. This along with its range of well over 600 kilometres, means the car can also manage long distances despite being an EV.
