Experience a new AR experience in the heart of KL for the first time.

Running now until 30 November 2024, Downtown Kuala Lumpur will transform into a vibrant digital playground as it hosts the inaugural Augmented Reality Festival Kuala Lumpur (AR FEST KL). With over 30 interactive AR activations, this festival invites visitors to experience the city like never before, blending its rich history with modern technology.

The Core

AR FEST KL features four core programs. StreetARt, ARca, ARtworks, and CheritAR, each showcasing unique elements across notable landmarks such as the National Art Gallery, Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad, and the bustling streets of Jalan Sultan and Petaling. Expect to find digital artworks nestled in charming spots like Kwai Chai Hong and REXKL.

StreetARt encourages participants to create a new urban narrative by merging everyday murals with interactive AR technology. Renowned muralists like Cloakwork, JimmyGummy, and Kenji Chai have transformed their works into immersive experiences, unlocking vibrant stories through digital enhancements.

Augmented Mural

One of the standout pieces is a mural by the late graffiti artist Orkibal, honouring his impact on urban art. ARca offers an adventurous exploration with larger-than-life digital sculptures inspired by Malaysia’s culture, from the iconic Wau Bulan to nostalgic childhood symbols. Set against the lively backdrop of The Starhill, these AR installations highlight the fusion of art and technology.

Additionally, ARtworks, in collaboration with the National Art Gallery, integrates tradition with innovation. Visitors can interact with five iconic masterpieces, including works by Abdul Latiff Mohidin and A.J. Rahman, enhanced by AR elements that deepen the appreciation of these timeless creations.

Interactive AR

CheritAR offers a modern take on Kuala Lumpur’s history through AI-powered avatars at historical sites like the Sultan Abdul Samad Building. These interactive experiences transform a heritage walk into a captivating journey filled with animated storytelling.
